Bedwetting, or nocturnal
enuresis, is a very common condition that affects one in eight children
at the age of six years. Left untreated only half of these children will
grow out of the condition by the age of ten years. Children will
commonly experience anxiety and embarrassment, particularly, when invited
to sleepovers or school camps. This can impact on their self-esteem at
an important stage in their development.
The impact of bedwetting
on the family may be significant.
- Parents and the child
frequently experience
broken sleep.
- The added time and cost of laundering bed linen and
nightwear.
- The cost to
families using disposable nappy products to help manage the child's
bedwetting is substantial.
All these factors create additional stress on already busy families.
